The Wedding
The Wedding is over. It was amazing. My favorite part was having so many family and friends in one location. That doesn't happen very often for Roberto and I because most of our family doesn't live in Michigan. It was beautiful and spiritual and just an all around great day. The honeymoon was great too we went to Las Vegas for a week and drove to Long Beach and Grand Canyon while we were there. I think seeing the Grand Canyon together was my favorite part of the trip. Other than that just going on a trip together alone was really fun! We were super happy to get home though. We missed Zakk and Leia. And they missed us: )

Meet the Bridesmaids
Roberto and I are very fortunate to have many amazing people in our lives. We are having a smaller wedding so we couldn't have everyone we would like to in our wedding party or there would be no one to watch us get married: ) With that said we have a few important people that have honored us by agreeing to stand up for us on our wedding day. Let us introduce our bridesmaids.
Jean Lacey- Jean is my sister and best friend. She is the most loving amazing person you will ever meet. Everyone that meets her falls in love with her. Including a Mr. Gene Jouppi, they have just become engaged and we are so happy for them! I love my sister with all I have and am truly blessed she is my sister. She is also great friends with Roberto. They are just like brother and sister. Roberto says she is his "favorite" sister: ) Jean is working for an accounting firm and is studying accounting at Wayne State University.
Kelly Ann- Kelly has been "our" best friend for many years. She always brings energy and joy to any situation. She is one of those friends that accepts you exactly the way you are and would drop anything to help you out. I/we treasure her friendship so much. We also just love her entire family. They have welcomed us into their lives and made us feel like we are a part of her family, we love them all so much. I know Kelly will be a life long friend. Kelly graduated from U of M recently with her degree in Elementary Ed, and is working in a Kindergarten classroom right now.
Crystal Hanson- Crystal is my cousin on my Mom's side. Going to see her and her twin sister, Candace in Kansas was always the highlight of my summer. I always looked up to them like the two cool older sisters I never had. Crystal is absolutely hilarious and I can talk to her for hours about nothing. In recent years Crystal and I have become even closer. I cherish our time together and words cannot describe how special I feel that she is making the trip from Kansas to be a part of our big day. Crystal graduated with her degree in Marketing and was studying in an accelerated program to become a teacher when she found out she was expecting triplets! Crystal is now a full-time mommy, a children's clothing store manager and part-time substitute teacher.
Kelly Lynn- Kelly is my brother's girlfriend and my friend. She has stolen all of our hearts since Robert began dating her. She is adventurous and outgoing and a joy to be around. I couldn't think of a better addition to our family one day (hint hint). She has dropped everything on more than one occasion to help me or my family out. I love her so much and am so glad she is a part of my life and wedding party!Kelly is studying Hospitality Management and works at the Hyatt in Dearborn.
Tiffany Robinson- Tiffany is a great friend. She is smart, funny and an amazing person. I cannot count the number of times she reminded me of assignments due that I had forgotten about. I don't think I could have graduated without her. We share life's trials and joys with one another and I can talk to her about anything. I am so lucky to have such a caring, fun person as a friend. She and I have so much fun together. I can always count on her. Tiffany is studying to become a teacher of Biology and Spanish and works as a soccer coach and substitute teacher.
Maria Alejandra- Mariale is Andres's (Roberto's brother) girlfriend. Mariale is a beautiful girl that has captured Andres's heart and is basically already a part of the Behrens family. I met Mariale a few years back when I visited Venezuela for the first time. It was great because she actually spoke English so I had someone to talk to! She took great care of me there and always called to see if I wanted to do something so I wasn't bored at the house. Roberto and I had a lot of fun hanging out with Andres and her when we were there. She is very smart and Andres calls her a "nerd" because she studies so much:). She lives and studies in Oklahoma right now. Mariale was so excited when I asked her to be my bridesmaid that she went and tried on the dress the same day! It made me so happy!

How we fell in love
I saw Roberto in passing in the dorm and we always gave each other a wave and a "hello". A couple weeks or so passed and I ran into Roberto again while hanging out in a friend's dorm room. He mentioned he didn't know how to do laundry and I said I would teach him! After all he did help me move in to my room.
We spent hours doing laundry (I guess that's what happens when you haven't done laundry for a few weeks) and had a great time talking... or trying to:) It was a combination of Spanish and English and everything in between. After that day we saw each other everyday. We would go to meals together with our friends, work out together and helped each other with our Spanish/English homework.
All of a sudden we were inseparable. I had a new best friend. Then something else happened. I was walking to class one day and I found myself laughing out loud about something Roberto had said earlier. I caught myself and thought people might think I was crazy laughing with no one around me. "Oh well" I thought and continued to have an enormous smile on my face walking to class, and then all of a sudden I had this warm happiness rush over me. I can pinpoint that as the moment I knew I was falling in love with Roberto.
I tried not to make it too noticeable because I wasn't really interested in a relationship and figured he didn't like me like that since he hadn't really "made a move". But that would soon change.
We went to a house party that weekend with a big group of our friends. We were all talking in a circle in the backyard of the house and Roberto was standing behind me talking to a friend. Unexpectedly I felt someone touch my finger very gently and a felt butterflies in my stomach. I wasn't looking at him but knew it was Roberto behind me. He then slowly put his hand in mine and we continued our coversation with other people like nothing was going on.(I later found out his friend actually did notice what he was doing and said "what are you doing" and he said "just keep talking"...all in Spanish of course)
Time passed and we knew we liked eachother but I wasn't trying to rush into a relationship. Then one day Roberto asked me to be his girlfriend. It was in "our room", a storage room that we studied in because it was the only cool place in the building. His speech went something like this: "Well I really like you alot I think you are amazing and funny and the most beautiful girl I've ever met,(insert nurmerous more compliments here) but I don't really know if I'll be here in 3 months or if I'll ever come back to the United States after December so you should know that, but do you want to be my girlfriend?" Me:"...UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....laugh....laugh...ugh" (think to self, "i love him")say: "I have to think about it". I mean what did he want me to say??? Well I made him wait three days and then said I would be his girlfriend I figured I didn't have anything to lose.
As you all may or may not know we did have to spend the month of December and then 4 months of that summer apart that year but Roberto came back here for school and we have spent the past 5 years loving every moment we are blessed to have with one another:)
